Northeast Electric Power University (NEEPRI) is situated in Jilin City, Jilin Province—a region renowned for its picturesque scenery. Founded in 1949, it was the very first engineering institution dedicated to the electric power sector established directly by the Communist Party of China. The institution was officially named Jilin Electric Power Institute in 1958 and renamed Northeast Electric Power Institute in 1978. In 1981, it was approved as one of the first institutions nationwide authorized to confer master's degrees; in 1984, it was granted the privilege to recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates for admission to postgraduate programs without requiring entrance examinations. Originally under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Electric Power and later the State Power Corporation, the university adopted a management model of "joint construction by central and local authorities, with primary management by local authorities" starting in 2000. It was designated as one of the first key universities in Jilin Province in 2004 and officially renamed Northeast Electric Power University in 2005. In 2012, it was selected as a key institution under the national "Capacity Building Project of Universities in Central and Western China." Subsequently, it was authorized to confer doctoral degrees in 2013; selected as a "High-Level, Distinctive University" for priority development within Jilin Province (a "Provincial First-Class University") in 2019; and chosen as one of the first pilot units for the "Excellent Engineer College" initiative in Jilin Province in 2025. The university remains steadfast in its mission to prioritize talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, cultural heritage and innovation, and international exchange and cooperation. By proactively aligning itself with the needs of the national electric power industry and the economic development of Jilin Province, the university has established a comprehensive disciplinary system characterized by a primary focus on energy and electric power, complemented by the interdisciplinary integration of various academic fields.
东北电力大学坐落在风景秀美的吉林省吉林市，始建于1949年，是中国共产党直接创建的第一所电力工科学校，1958年定名为吉林电力学院，1978年更名为东北电力学院，1981年获批全国首批硕士学位授予单位，1984年获批推荐优秀应届本科毕业生免试攻读研究生学位资格。学校原隶属电力部、国家电力公司，2000年起实行“中央与地方共建，以地方管理为主”的管理模式，2004 年入选吉林省首批重点大学，2005年学校更名为东北电力大学，2012年入选国家“中西部高校基础能力建设工程”重点建设高校，2013年获批博士学位授权单位，2019年入选吉林省特色高水平大学建设高校（省一流高校），2025年入选吉林省首批卓越工程师学院试点建设单位。8C2BA 学校坚持以人才培养、科学研究、社会服务、文化传承与创新和国际交流合作为己任，主动适应国家电力工业和吉林省的经济建设需求，形成了以能源电力特色为主，多学科交叉融合，较为完整的学科体系。
